(bautizado el 8 may. 1592, Romford, Essex, Inglaterra–8 sep. 1644, Londres.).

Poeta religioso inglés. Se recuerda a Quarles principalmente por sus Emblemes [Emblemas] (1635), el más notable libro de emblemas en inglés (colecciones de dibujos simbólicos, usualmente acompañados por textos en verso y en prosa). El éxito de este libro lo llevó a escribir otro, Hieroglyphikes of the Life of Man [Jeroglíficos de la vida del hombre] (1638). Impresos en un volumen en 1639, formaron tal vez el libro de versos más popular del s. XVII. También escribió Enchiridion [El manual] (1640), un libro de aforismos de gran popularidad.
